Kamada Ekadashi 2025: Seeking Freedom from Curses and Fulfillment of Dreams

by Deepak Rawat on Apr 08, 2025
Kamada Ekadashi 2025: Seeking Freedom from Curses and Fulfillment of Dreams

Kamada Ekadashi 2025 is a religious Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi. It falls on the 11th day of the Chaitra month of Shukla Paksha after Ram Navami, according to Hindu Panchang. By observing fast on Kamada Ekadashi one can get the fruit of any wish asked from Lord Vishnu. One can ask for divine blessings and pray for happiness and a prosperous life.

Historical Legend Behind the Kamada Ekadashi 2025 Celebrations

Based on an incident in the Padma Puran, there lived a king named Pundarika. He ruled over the kingdom of Nagapura and stayed between the celestial nymph, kinnaras, Gandharvas and nagas. Among them, a celestial nymph named Lalitha and Gandharva named Lalith fell in love with each other. These couples were both happy in their world, singing and rejoicing.

One day King Pundarika was sporting. While Lalith the Gandarva was singing the King’s Praises. At that precise moment, he stumbled and fell on words and mistakenly sang praises for his wife. A serpent called Karkat saw this and complained about it to King Pundarik. This made the king furious and he cursed Lalith that he would turn into a fierce demon. The demon will eat flesh and human beings. This incident upset his wife Lalitha and she went to seek solace from Rishi Munis (Sages) in dense forest to get rid of the curse.

After a few years passed by, Lalitha went to sage Rishiyamook on Vindya Mountain. Hearing her story and seeing her pure love for her husband he told her to do Ekadashi Vrata. This fast will destroy all his sins and free her husband from the curse. Lalitha observed the fast on Ekadashi day with utmost devotion to Lord Vishnu. Soon, the lord was happy with her faith in him and freed Lalith from the demon form and granted back his Gandharvahood to him.

Religious Significance of Observing Kamada Ekadashi 2025

In Bhavishya Utarra Purana, the importance of observing the fast has been mentioned clearly. While explaining the significance of Kamada Ekadashi Lord Krishna explains to Yudisthira how keeping fast on this auspicious day is greater than all charity and sacrifices done for needy people. It is also said that one who keeps this fast will get a place in the (Vaikuntha Dham) abode of Lord Vishnu after death.

Kamada Ekadashi Pooja blesses its observer with the fulfilment of desires. It also helps remove dreadful curses and cleanses one’s consciousness and soul. Some of the benefits of observing fast on this day are as follows:

  1. Kamada Ekadashi Vrata enhances the spiritual bond between the seeker and Lord Vishnu.
